SHENZHEN’S transport bureau will optimize at least 85 bus routes and add 2,500 temporary parking spots this year, an official from the bureau said during a radio program Tuesday.

The bureau will open at least 20 bus routes that link with Metro stations on Lines 12, 14 and 16, as well as the spur line of Line 6 that will open before the end of this year. The bureau will optimize the bus transportation network by adjusting 85 bus routes this year, according to Xu Wei, deputy chief of the Shenzhen Municipal Transport Bureau, at the call-in program Bridge of Communications of Shenzhen Radio.

Earlier this year, the bureau chose 81 routes to implement punctuality services among the routes’ stops. As a result, the buses’ punctuality rate along the routes reached 87% and passengers’ waiting time was reduced under the new mode.

In addition, the city will open more customized buses, cross-city buses and school buses to satisfy the residents’ commuting needs. “We are collecting different routes’ bus speed data, and find out the reasons for the slowest bus routes, and work out measures to improve the bus’ efficiency,” Xu said at the program.

To solve the parking difficulty, the bureau planned to add 2,500 roadside parking spots in eight districts namely Futian, Nanshan, Luohu, Yantian, Bao’an, Longgang, Guangming and Pingshan.

The city now offers 19,669 temporary roadside parking spots on 469 road sections. The bureau will adjust and optimize at least 1,500 roadside parking spots this year to meet residents’ parking needs.
