‘One country, two systems’ ties HK with mainland closer: HKers

TODAY marks the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to the motherland. Four young Hong Kong people who are currently seeking career development in Qianhai said that the basic State policy of “one country, two systems” has safeguarded Hong Kong’s stability and prosperity over the past 25 years, and tied them closer not only with their mainland peers, but also with the whole country’s destiny.

Wong Sing-lung, founder of a culture and technology firm in Qianhai, said: “Under the ‘one country, two systems’ policy, Hong Kong has retained many of its traditional advantages while benefiting from the whole country’s rapid economic development, which brought greater opportunities to Hong Kong. As the country is providing more and better welfare for young Hong Kong people in terms of housing, job opportunities and entrepreneurship, I sincerely suggest my Hong Kong peers seize such a great opportunity.”

Cheung Kai-yuen, a board director of Qianhai Jarvis BIM Consulting Co. Ltd., believes that “one country, two systems” serves as a cornerstone of Hong Kong’s continued prosperity and stability. “Hong Kong is an inseparable part of China. The purpose of implementing two different systems is to give Hong Kong more space to integrate with international standards, introduce international resources, and export the mainland’s innovation and technology achievements,” Cheung said.

“The legislation of the Law on Safeguarding National Security in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the implementation of the principle of ‘patriots administering Hong Kong,’ and the improvement of Hong Kong’s electoral system have brought Hong Kong from chaos to rule of law. Everyone understands that only under the premise of one China, can the two systems give Hong Kong energy to start a new chapter. With the opening of the country’s policies for young Hong Kong people in all aspects of life in the [Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao] Greater Bay Area (GBA), I appeal to my Hong Kong friends to jointly open a new chapter in the GBA,” Cheung said.

Zyu Gaa-kei and Lam Ka-ho came to Qianhai last year. They have experienced the efforts Qianhai and Shenzhen have made to help them integrate into the local environment.

Zyu said she deeply felt the convenience created by various policies rolled out exclusively for young Hong Kong people. “The activities organized by the Qianhai Authority allowed me to have a deeper understanding of Shenzhen and to make more friends coming from the two places. I believe that under the new leadership, Hong Kong can better integrate into the overall development of the motherland and continue to write new stories in the successful practice of ‘one country, two systems,’” she said.

Lam said many of his friends in Hong Kong have chosen to work and live in the GBA cities on the mainland. “The GBA’s favorable policies are more helpful for realizing our dreams. So, we should seize this opportunity and jointly create a bright future,” he said.
