People with disabilities get help in finding jobs

WANG LONG, a 21-year-old who has a limb disability, received a job offer from Foxconn recently.

Wang, a Shenzhen native who graduated from Guangdong AIB Polytechnic, had sent resumes to dozens of companies, seeking a job before graduation.

However, he did not receive any response.

Using his last hope, Wang called 12385, the hotline for helping disabled people.

He received a response from Shenzhen Federation for Disabled Persons, which helped him forward his resume, arrange interviews and undergo health checks. Within a month, Wang received the offer from Foxconn to work as an office clerk.

Facing the grim employment situation for graduates this year, the federation had set up the “one-person, one-policy” service mechanism to help physically challenged graduates.

It held job fairs and promotions specially for physically challenged people through partnership with human resources departments and enterprises.

According to Dong Fei, head of the rehabilitation and employment department, 85% of the graduates with disabilities from Shenzhen universities and colleges hand landed their jobs and some had enrolled to tech giants like Tencent and Skyworth.

The Shenzhen Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau have planned to organize five jobs fairs for graduates including three to be held between September and November and monthly online job fairs between March and November to promote graduates’ employment.
