Expat photographers visit South China Tigers in Shaoguan

A group of 23 expats and their families, most of whom are wildlife photographers and vloggers, had a two-day trip to Shaoguan in northern Guangdong, during which they visited the South China tigers at a breeding and research base to mark the International Day for Biological Diversity, which falls on May 22 every year.

Colombian biologist Isaac Cohen said that it was meaningful and educational to visit the tigers with his daughter on the special day. “The South China Tigers are very special species that most people don’t know, so it’s important to teach them about their existence and raise their awareness on the protection and conservation of the animals,” he said.

At the base, the expats gave the tigers English names. Through an online adoption system, expats will be kept updated with the tigers’ latest photos and conditions, which they can share on their social media to bring more attention to the species.
