2019-02-28 In 2004, a group of enthusiastic birdwatchers spontaneously launched the Shenzhen Bird Watching Society. Over the past dozen years, they have been dedicated to promoting birding events, ecological protection, conducting bird censuses, environmental monitoring, and establishing a local bird database. One census they conduct is the annual International Black-faced Spoonbill Census, organized by the Hong Kong Bird Watching Society and participated by birding societies across the globe. Conducted to count the number of black-faced spoonbills, an endangered beautiful species in the world, the work is a joint effort of local veteran birdwatchers, conservationists, researchers and ornithologists. Shenzhen Daily follows the event in 2019 to honor the conservationists and raise public awareness on environmental protection. |
