THE School of Music of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen) and Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in the U.K. recently signed an agreement to promote exchanges and cooperation in arts education.

This also marks the first time that the School of Music of CUHK-Shenzhen, or the Shenzhen Conservatory of Music (provisional), has partnered with an overseas music school, according to CUHK-Shenzhen.

Students at the School of Music of CUHK-Shenzhen will study at RNCM under exchange programs as the first step for the cooperation.

The School of Music of CUHK-Shenzhen said it aims to learn from and integrate professional cultivation programs from RNCM in music, string, vocal and opera, and string orchestra. Its students will have a chance to perform with top international artists as RNCM is also the fifth-largest arts center in the U.K.

Linda Merrick, principal of RNCM, said RNCM has always been seeking opportunities for its students and teachers to enhance their experience in China and observed that cooperation is an effective way to do so, and she is looking forward to jointly conducting arts cooperation projects and activities with CUHK-Shenzhen.

Ye Xiaogang, founding dean of the School of Music of CUHK-Shenzhen, said it is a great honor to cooperate with RNCM and hoped to jointly write a glorious chapter in the world of music and arts.

Located in Manchester, RNCM is one of the leading music schools or conservatories in the U.K. with its origins traced back to the late 19th century.

The School of Music of CUHK-Shenzhen is one of Shenzhen’s 10 new landmark cultural facilities. The school enrolled its first batch of students in September last year, and it aims to become an international, innovative and world-leading higher education music institution.
