SHENZHEN will take the greatest possible effort and adopt the fastest and most stringent measures to stamp out the latest wave of COVID-19 resurgence in the shortest time, and firmly hold the bottom line of no large-scale COVID rebound in the city.

Shenzhen Party chief Meng Fanli made the remarks when he chaired an online meeting of the city’s COVID control leading group yesterday.

All resources should be deployed by all means to eliminate the risk of community transmission in key areas, he stressed.

Earlier in the day, Mayor Qin Weizhong paid an inspection tour to Nanshan District’s epidemiological investigation frontline command center.

He emphasized that efforts should be made to race against the clock to speed up epidemiological investigations and swiftly identify close contacts, precisely designate high-, medium- and low-risk areas for COVID-19, efficiently carry out nucleic acid testing, and strictly implement classified management measures.

Qin called for actions to cut off COVID-19 transmission chains as soon as possible, strictly prevent epidemic spillover, attend to residents’ basic living and medical needs, and minimize the impact on the economic and social development and people’s lives.

The mayor urged efforts to comprehensively strengthen COVID prevention and control at checkpoints, improve joint prevention and control between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, optimize cross-border transportation connection modes, and crack down on illegal immigration and smuggling.

Meanwhile, management practices in residential compounds and urban villages should be reinforced and gathering activities should be strictly controlled, according to Qin.

Shenzhen reported 14 locally transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases and five asymptomatic infections Tuesday, according to the city’s health commission yesterday.

Thirteen of the 19 COVID patients live in Nanshan, including eight who reside in densely populated Baishizhou in Shahe Subdistrict.

In another development, Shenzhen Samii International Medical Center (The Fourth People’s Hospital of Shenzhen) in Pingshan District said yesterday that it would suspend its fever clinic and emergency services until further notice. Shenzhen People’s Hospital resumed its fever clinic service at noon yesterday.

Shenzhen Book City CBD Store, Shenzhen Library and Shenzhen Concert Hall announced to suspend  services starting yesterday.

Fairy Lake Botanical Garden will receive visitors again starting today.
