AN intense heat wave has been scorching Shenzhen in recent weeks and the city issued an orange alert for high temperatures Saturday. Despite the blazing hot weather, people from all walks of life are still joining the fight against the latest COVID resurgence.

Lai Weirong has been taking responsibility for distributing daily necessities to over 30,000 residents living in Nanshan District’s Baishizhou, which was hard hit by the outbreak.


Wearing protective gear all day long, he rushed in and out of refrigerated vehicles at 6 degrees Celsius, while the outdoor temperature was 36 degrees.


“We are delivering residents broccoli, pears and other fruits and vegetables. It is very hot today. We must keep the cold chain at 6 degrees Celsius to ensure the food is fresh,” he told Shenzhen TV.
