THE Dameisha section of coastal Yanmei Road, which links Yantian and Meisha areas, will be turned into a two-way four-lane road with some parts underground.

The Xiaomeisha section will be expanded to a two-way four-lane road, according to the Yanmei Road renovation and upgrading plan, unveiled by the Yantian District Public Works Bureau on Tuesday.

The renovation, which will turn the coastal road into a coastal tourism corridor, slow and fast traffic systems linking tourist attractions, includes the route’s optimization, lowering its slopes and expanding its bends.

The renovation of the 11.3-kilometer road from Beishan Overpass to Beizaijiao Checkpoint will last one year. To relieve congestion, police will impose traffic controls and require drivers to make reservations if they go to Meisha area during weekends and holidays.

The key part of the renovation project is the 3-kilometer section from Zhongxing Hetai Hotel at the foot of Boluo Hill to Huanmei Road in Dameisha. The section will be closed during weekdays between August and Oct. 7 and open with only one westward lane on weekends and during holidays. According to Shenzhen traffic police, the section of Yanmei Road between the seafood street and Huanmei Road will be closed between Aug. 3 this year and March 31 next year. Between Aug. 3 and July 31, 2023, the section from Xiaomeisha to Beizaijiao Checkpoint will be closed, and drivers are advised to take Yantian-Baguang Expressway or alternative routes to the area.
