XIAOMI has introduced a humanoid robot called CyberOne, along with a slew of products such as new foldable phone and budget phones. The 177cm-tall and 52-kilogram CyberOne is Xiaomi’s new member in its cyber family following the CyberDog released last year — an experimental product for limited sale. At the launch event in Beijing on Thursday, CyberDog walked on stage alongside Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun before handing him a flower and then posing for a selfie together. CyberOne features two microphones and two cameras, allowing it to hear and see. The bot can recognize 85 types of environmental sounds. It can analyze human vocal expressions and detect 45 different emotions. It even comforts its users “in times of sadness,” according to Xiaomi. The robot can interact with its surroundings via the curved OLED panel that makes up its face. The whole body carries 13 joints and allows for 21 degrees of freedom, each capable of responding in a mere 0.5 milliseconds. While the arms rely on actuators with an output torque that maxes out at 30Nm, its legs can reach a peak torque of a whopping 300Nm instantaneously. Xiaomi said the robot, with two legs, can walk at a speed of 3.6 km per hour and grip objects while it walks. A humanoid robot with two legs is more complex than robots with four legs. The former requires more powerful motors, and more complicated algorithms and degrees of movement. The new technologies developed for the robot could also be used in an array of other projects such as smart cars. “With AI at its core and a full-size humanoid frame as its vessel, this is an exploration of possibilities of Xiaomi’s future technological ecosystem and a new breakthrough for the company,” Lei said in a statement. CyberOne is in development and may take a long time before it is ready for commercial launch. Each humanoid is expected to cost between 600,000 yuan (US$88,980) and 700,000 yuan. So it’ll be a while before Xiaomi thinks about mass producing CyberOne. (SD-CGTN) |
