SZ-made autonomous boarding bridge put into use
    2022-08-18  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A SHENZHEN-MADE autonomous passenger boarding bridge successfully buckled on an aircraft door in about 50 seconds at Chengdu Tianfu International Airport recently, marking the official operation of the first autonomous smart boarding bridge in Asia, Nanfang Plus reported Tuesday.

The autonomous passenger boarding bridge was created by Shenzhen-based CIMC Tianda, a subsidiary of China International Marine Containers Group Co. Ltd. (CIMC).

The boarding bridge utilizes aircraft door recognition and positioning system. During its operation, the information will be transmitted simultaneously to an artificial intelligence self-control system to finish the docking in a shorter time.

The operation also unveiled a new chapter in the history of China’s civil aviation equipment. Before this, the work was done by drivers via the operational platform on the boarding bridge.

The report said that due to the difficulty of docking between the boarding bridge and aircraft, the manual docking error rate remained high. Occasionally, safety accidents will happen when the boarding bridge rubs the aircraft, which further affects flight safety and airport operation efficiency.

In addition, large airports often have hundreds of boarding bridges, far apart from each other, so boarding bridge drivers need to walk back and forth between multiple boarding bridges, resulting in low work efficiency.

The autonomous boarding bridge, equipped with over 20 high precision sensors, ensures precise operations to provide stronger safety guarantees.

In 2019, the world’s first autonomous intelligent boarding bridge, manufactured by CIMC Tianda, was put into use in Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport.

CIMC Tianda’s autonomous boarding bridges helped reduce the docking time from the average three minutes to within a minute at the airport, the report said.
