Leshan Grand Buddha’s statue base emerges due to drought
    2022-08-24  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Leshan Grand Buddha in Leshan, Southwest China’s Sichuan Province, is seen yesterday. The statue’s base has recently emerged due to low water levels. The rare scene has attracted a lot of tourists to visit the site. Leshan Grand Buddha, located at the confluence of three rivers, is the tallest stone Buddha statue (71 meters in height) in the world. Since late July, rainfall in Leshan has been 40-80% less compared with the same period in previous years. At present, the altitude of the Leshan Grand Buddha platform’s water level is only about 354 meters, which is nearly 2 meters lower than the average water level in August.       (In-depth report on China’s drought-relief efforts on P6)Xinhua
