A 77-YEAR-OLD granny, identified by her surname Liao, became the focus of attention at the 2022 national judicial examination over the weekend, as she was the oldest among the attendees in Guangdong.

Over 17,000 people from Shenzhen attended the law profession qualification test, a new record for the city, statistics from the Shenzhen Municipal Justice Bureau said Tuesday.

Facing physical and mental tests, Liao told a story about a life full of possibilities.

Liao attended the examination at Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology on Sept. 18. Before her retirement, she was a senior engineer.

“I just want to challenge myself and test my studies through the law examination,” Liao said during an interview. As soon as the examination was over, Liao sat on a bench, opened her books and checked an answer to a multiple-choice question to see if she got it right. Other attendees also joined her for discussion.

Liao was not confident if she could pass the exam as the professional qualification test needs patience, vast knowledge and strategy. She was not satisfied with her performance as she didn’t finish some questions.

Liao didn’t tell her family about the exam. As for the results, however, Liao said she would be happy if she passes and if she fails, she’ll treat it as if it has never happened.
