Sand sculptures

SpongeBob, Patrick Star, Mr. Krabs, Moana, the Little Mermaid and Nemo are coming to life in an array of sand sculptures displayed on the Dameisha beach. The sand sculpture festival, running through the end of the year, showcases 11 sculptures that are fascinating to see. At night the pieces are lit in special ways, adding a whole new dimension to them.

Venue: Dameisha Coastal Park, Yantian District (盐田区大梅沙海滨公园)

Metro: Line 8 to Yantian Port West Station (盐田港西站), Exit A1, then take bus M196 and get off at Seaside Resort Stop (海滨浴场站)

Woodcarvings, old objects

Traditional Guangdong gold-coated woodcarvings and gold lacquer items are on display until Sunday. Old daily items with links to Shenzhen’s history since the 1980s are also on display until Dec. 4.

Moriyama’s photos

Photos by Daidō Moriyama are on display at the “Seeping Into Darkness” exhibition running until Nov. 8. Moriyama is known for his grainy, high-contrast black-and-white photos of Tokyo street scenes taken by a compact 35mm camera that capture a sensuous yet destabilized urban society.
