HKers feel heartened by Xi Jinping’s report

HONGKONGERS who are currently seeking for career development in Shenzhen told Shenzhen Daily that they feel heartened by Xi Jinping’s report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on behalf of the 19th CPC Central Committee at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing yesterday morning.

Sing Chan, who is committing himself to helping more Hong Kong people realize their dreams on the mainland, said his main feeling after watching the congress is that it is the Party’s strong leadership and the unity of all Chinese people that resulted in China’s remarkable achievements when looking back to the country’s long and bumpy development history.

“The report to the 20th CPC National Congress further pointed out the direction and methods for us, and I have a deeper understanding of the cause of communism. In the 10 years since I came to the mainland from Hong Kong to start a business, I have experienced Shenzhen’s rapid development and the advantages of socialism with Chinese characteristics. We young people in Hong Kong are not only born at the right time, but also bear a special identity. In the past few years, my life on the mainland allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of ‘one country, two systems,’” he said.

“I learned about the concept of ‘Chinese-style modernization’ from today’s congress and I’m wondering how Hong Kong can utilize its strength and unique status to achieve Hong Kong-style modernization under the ‘one country, two systems’ policy, and in turn contribute to the modernization of our motherland,” Chan said.

Hong Kong entrepreneur Wong Ching-yu said he felt grateful for the Central Government’s strong support and favorable policies for Hong Kong people in the last 10 years, and agrees with and yearns for a human community with a shared future proposed by Xi.

“Xi stressed that the Central Government will continue to support Hong Kong and Macao in growing their economies and improving their people’s lives, promoting long-term prosperity and stability in the two special administrative regions. Such statements and goals are quite inspiring, and we will achieve our own development through hard work and make more and greater contributions to our country,” Wong said.

William Ng Lok-ming, one of the first three Hong Kong lawyers who came to practice in Qianhai this August after obtaining the Greater Bay Area lawyer’s certificate, said: “Qianhai is an entry point for me to integrate into the overall development of the motherland and to find new opportunities. In Qianhai, I have personally felt the close cooperation between Shenzhen and Hong Kong and how Hongkongers can better integrate into the country’s overall development in an all-round way.

“I believe the convening of the 20th CPC National Congress will open a new journey and a new chapter for our country. The great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation has pressed the ‘fast forward’ button. As a patriotic Hong Kong resident and a legal service provider, I hope to seize such historic opportunity to contribute to the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics within my capacity,” he said.
