THOSE who offer clues leading to the clampdown of traffic offenders will be awarded up to 20,000 yuan (US$2,740), an implementation plan for traffic safety released at the official website of Shenzhen Municipal Justice Bureau showed.
The plan, which is now seeking public suggestions, encourages citizens to report traffic crimes and serious violations by offering rewards. However, no rewards are offered for minor traffic violation reports.
For violations such as illegal racing and driving under the influence, the whistleblower can receive 1,000 yuan in reward per lead.
For serious traffic violations reported leading to detention, driver’s license suspension, 12 penalty points and over 5,000-yuan fines, whistleblowers can receive 1,000 to 3,000 yuan in rewards. For traffic violations leading to serious social consequences, rewards can go from 100 to 500 yuan. For reports that can timely prevent serious traffic accidents, rewards can go from 50 to 5,000 yuan depending on the situation.
Citizens who offer help and dissuade people from sitting or walking on expressways or arterial roads or take precautions to prevent accidents and call the police, will be rewarded 3,000 yuan if the case happens during the day or 5,000 yuan during the night.
Whistleblowers must provide sufficient evidence helpful to police during investigation, and those who fabricate evidence and frame others will be liable for criminal investigation, with their information included into the personal credit system.
Citizens can report traffic crimes by calling 0755-83333333, or through the police’s Weibo account “深圳交警,” or by visiting police stations. |
