THE Spanish version of Futian District’s government official website (http://www.szft.gov.cn/es/) has been launched to provide more efficient information services for Spanish speakers who intend to invest in or visit the district.

Run by Shenzhen Daily, it is the first Spanish-language government website in the city and the first county- and district-level Spanish-language government website in China.

“Spanish is the official language of over 20 countries, the mother tongue of over 400 million people, and one of the six official languages of the United Nations. The Spanish version of Futian’s official website will not only facilitate the district’s endeavor to communicate with the rest of the world, but will also provide more convenient and efficient information services to visitors and residents who speak Spanish,” according to a statement released Monday on the official website of the Futian District Government.

Rafael Saavedra from Venezuela, who currently lives in Futian, said the webpage in general looks good, modern and easy to navigate. “It is really good to have one more option to get information in Spanish! I really applaud the initiative,” Saavedra said.

The Spanish website presents a clear structure with six categories including “About Futian” (Acerca de Futian), “Government” (Gobierno), “News” (Noticias), “Business” (Negocio), “Explore Futian” (Explorar Futian) and “Services” (Servicios).

In the “About Futian” category, visitors can find a brief introduction to the district as well as videos and photos that feature major events, stories about people, the natural and urban landscape and more.

The “Government” category provides information about Futian’s government leaders and its friendship districts in foreign countries. (Continued on P3)

The “News” category features the latest local news and provides updated information about ongoing cultural and art events in town.

The “Business” category offers a glimpse into the business environment of the district, its main industries and information about the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone.

The “Explore Futian” category provides information about the district’s international blocks, museums and galleries, libraries and bookstores, parks, shopping centers, sports venues, hotels and recommended sightseeing routes.

The “Services” category provides information about transportation, hospitals, international schools, visa services, checkpoints and important hotlines.

Karla Angarita, a Colombian citizen in Shenzhen, is delighted to learn about the website. She finds information about education, news and cultural events fun and useful.

The Spanish website is hosted by the General Office of the Futian District Government and administered by Futian District Government Service Data Administration.

Established in 1990 and covering 78.66 square kilometers, Futian is the city center of Shenzhen and where the municipal government is located. Its permanent resident population was more than 1.55 million, according to the national population census in 2021.

Also known as the central business district (CBD) in Shenzhen, Futian has become a dynamic district that attracts many types of domestic and international businesses, with high-tech firms playing an essential part.

The district’s GDP posted a year-on-year growth of 8.6% to reach 531.8 billion yuan (US$74 billion) in 2021, ranking 3rd among China’s top 100 districts.
