60,000 gift packages to be given to kids in need

THE Shenzhen-registered charity One Foundation will be giving out over 60,000 gift packages to children in need across the country this winter through its decade-old “warm package” program, which began yesterday.

The program is set up for the living and psychological needs of children in underdeveloped and disaster-affected areas, and involves the participation of social organizations, volunteers, enterprises and the public in material donation, repackaging, transportation and distribution, as well as in visits.

Since its launch in 2011, the program has cooperated with over 2,000 teams and legions of volunteers, handing out more than 870,000 packages to children in need, according to the foundation.

The program has optimized the items in the package several times over the years. This year’s package features not only staple items such as cotton-padded clothes, shoes, scarves, socks, hand cream, school bags and dolls, but also a new package for preschool children.

Package delivery is now more convenient and efficient due to the program’s digitization upgrade.

A tracking system developed by the foundation and smart logistics firm Cainiao helps trace the whereabouts of the packages throughout the delivery process.

This year’s program has also gained support from various online and offline charities, platforms, companies and media outlets, according to the foundation.

One Foundation was established by movie star Jet Li in 2007. In December 2010, it was registered in Shenzhen and became the first privately run public-raising foundation in the country.
