Dedicated entities, individuals and touching moments awarded
    2022-11-09  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

ABOUT 140 citizens, projects, enterprises and institutions were awarded for their dedication to help the needy and disadvantaged during the awards ceremony of the 19th Shenzhen Project Care on Monday, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

This year’s awards added a new item to honor 10 touching moments, bringing the audience to the scene. For example, Bao’an police officer Yang Liang has responded to over 50 messages sent by a young woman suffering from depression, helping her overcome the ‘dark.’

Veteran and entrepreneur Zhong Lizhao calls Shenzhen “a city of gratitude,” while Wang Guochao, who has been a volunteer teacher in Tibet, calls it “a city of volunteers.”

The caring city has attracted many people from all over the county. According to Bai Yansong, the ceremony’s host, many people regard the city as their home.

Yi Hongjun, president of Shenzhen Xiechuang Senior Technical School, was rated as one of the city’s top 10 caring people. Alumni and students from the school recited an original poem for Yi, which goes: “I see the whole world from your eyes. You light up my world.” The students kindly regard Yi as “President Mom.” Yi has visited 40 disadvantaged counties in eight provinces and regions over the past 17 years and has helped bring down tuition fees totaling to 85 million yuan (US$11.7 million) for poor students. Over 9,800 students from impoverished areas have benefited from the school’s training projects, commanding professional skills. The school has helped more than 10,000 families out of poverty.

Longgang District’s Chunnuan Community Service Center was among Shenzhen Project Care’s 10 commended institutions. The center has closely paid attention to patients and their family members, medical workers and the other residents in the community, accompanying the needy with care, helping them overcome their difficulties. Since it opened in 2008, the center has conducted timely counseling 141,379 times, and helped the people facing difficulties apply for subsidies worth as much as 100 million yuan. “We aim to offer assistance for more people in need, providing service to the residents ranging from newborns to the elderly,” Li Zehong, the center’s director, said.

Over the past 19 years, Shenzhen Project Care has organized 32,000 activities and events dedicated to helping the needy and the disadvantaged.
