THE Ministry of Industry and Information Technology officially approved two companies, one from Chengdu and the other from Shenzhen, to jointly establish the national ultrahigh definition (UHD) video innovation center, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported Thursday.
It is notable that the two companies will each help build the provincial UHD video innovation centers in Guangdong and Sichuan provinces.
In May 2019, the Guangdong UHD video innovation center was jointly founded by the Institute of Intelligent Video Audio Technology, Longgang Shenzhen, Skyworth Group and Pengcheng Laboratory, and its supporting unit is the Guangdong Bohua UHD Innovation Center Co. Ltd.
The Longgang-headquartered company, with registered capital of 100 million yuan (US$13.79 million), is committed to the R&D of key common technologies and the transfer of achievements in the UHD display field.
Its shareholders include 10 leading enterprises in the UHD display industry as well as research institutes.
The national UHD video innovation center is expected to pool industrial innovation resources of UHD video materials, chips, modules, algorithms, equipment, overall units and systems from Sichuan and Guangdong provinces.
Shenzhen has strong industrial foundation and R&D strength in the UHD display industry, according to the Daily report.
The main business income of Shenzhen’s UHD display industry reached about 290 billion yuan in 2021, which was among the highest in China, according to the city’s action plan for fostering the UHD video industrial cluster (2022-2025) released this year,
The plan proposes that by 2025, the main business income of the city’s UHD display industry will exceed 450 billion yuan, with over eight enterprises each generating revenue of over 10 billion yuan and 20 enterprises each generating revenue of over 1 billion yuan will be developed.
At present, Shenzhen is optimizing the industrial spaces for the development of the UHD display industry, particularly in advanced manufacturing parks in Guangming, Bao’an and Longgang districts, according to the city’s planning.
