Meaning:

The transliteration of the English word “lure,” this term was first used in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan to refer to lure fishing. This is a means of fishing by using a rod and reel, perhaps also a spinner, and artificial fishing lures. Appearing in various colors, sizes, and styles, lures are used to attract fish and convince them to bite into the attached hook. They are often made of plastic, cork, rubber, wood, or metal and sometimes have feathers or tinsel attached to them to resemble the moving parts of fish prey. Lure fishing fans often return their prey back into the river after catching them, and they don’t throw bait into the water that would contaminate it, therefore lure fishing is thought of as an environmentally friendly sport. It has recently become popular on the Chinese mainland.
