Clean power use to reach record high

CHINA is set to set a new global record in clean power utilization in 2022, Reuters reported Wednesday.

The country’s electricity generation from solar power was up by more than 30% in January to October on the same period in 2021, while electricity from wind power jumped 25% to cement the country’s status as by far the world’s largest deployer of renewable energy, data from global energy think tank Ember show.

Giant wind turbine off production line

A GIANT offshore wind turbine, with the world’s largest per-unit capacity, has moved off the production line in eastern China’s Fujian.

The 16-megawatt wind turbine is equipped with a 146-meter hub, equal to the height of a 50-storied building, and has the world’s longest impeller diameter of 252 meters and the lightest per megawatt weight, according to China Three Gorges Corp. At full wind speed, the wind turbine can generate 34.2 kilowatt-hours of power after rotating a full turn. Its annual power output, estimated to average over 66 million kilowatt-hours, can meet the annual demand of 36,000 households of three.

Ports’ container throughput maintains expansion

CONTAINER throughput at China’s ports continued stable growth from January to October 2022, official data show.

During this period, some 240 million twenty-foot equivalent units of containers were handled at the country’s ports, up 4% year on year. Cargo throughput at China’s ports edged up 0.5 percent year on year to 12.93 billion tons.
