SHENZHEN is slated to hold its annual global investment promotion conference at Wuzhou Guest House in Futian District tomorrow, according to a press conference held yesterday.

The global investor get-together, in its fourth year, aims to comprehensively demonstrate Shenzhen’s determination to promote high-level opening up, as well as to boost global investors’ confidence in the city’s future development.

This year’s conference will continue to organize a series of activities in the form of “1+12+N,” namely, one main activity, 12 regional investment promotion conferences, and a number of overseas subvenues and industrial investment promotion activities. Subvenues have been set up in 16 cities on five continents.

Zhang Feimeng, head of the municipal commerce bureau, disclosed at yesterday’s conference that promotion conferences in the past three years had witnessed the negotiation and signing of over 600 projects, involving intended investment totaling over 2 trillion yuan (US$286.4 billion).

“The conference has become an important exhibition platform that focuses on presenting Shenzhen’s high-level opening up, high-quality economic and social development, and first-class business environment,” Zhang said.

“It is also a significant platform that gathers global investors and a platform for international exchanges in investment promotion,” she added.

This year’s conference is aimed at inviting Fortune Global 500 companies, China’s top 500 companies, large State-owned enterprises, leading private enterprises, unicorn companies, foreign embassies and consulates, and other international institutions.

It will highlight the city’s 28 industrial clusters and modern service industry, highlighting the major industries and sectors that Shenzhen has given priority to.

An online exhibition hall will be set up to create an investment window for year-round publicity, comprehensive display and global viewing.

The conference will focus on signing a number of major projects in fields such as new-generation information technology, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, new energy, new materials, high-end equipment and environmental protection, demonstrating Shenzhen’s strong manufacturing and innovation capacity.

Shenzhen’s actual use of foreign capital reached US$9.179 billion in the first 10 months of the year, up 4.3% year on year, as per official data. The actual use of foreign capital in high-tech industries hit US$3.777 billion, accounting for 41.1% of the city’s total foreign capital use. The actual use of foreign capital in the high-tech service industry was US$3.45 billion, up 4.7%.

So far, companies from over 170 countries and regions have invested in Shenzhen.
