SZ creates advantages in low-carbon industry
    2022-12-15  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN has established four advantages in the green and low-carbon industry after more than a decade of substantial support, with the industry’s added value having reached 138.7 billion yuan (US$19.93 billion) in 2021, Shenzhen Economic Daily reported yesterday.

Guo Ziping, director of the city’s development and reform commission, disclosed the figures and introduced the industrial policies of Shenzhen’s green and low-carbon industry at a meeting held in Shenzhen International Low Carbon City on Tuesday.

The meeting, an event of the 2022 Carbon Peak and Neutrality Forum and Shenzhen International Low Carbon City Forum, witnessed the release of a series of policies, research reports and standards in the low-carbon field, and the signing of major projects.

According to Guo, Shenzhen has an edge in industrial infrastructure and has a wide variety of new energy enterprises and a complete new energy vehicle industrial chain. The city is also a global leader in power battery technology, with some companies gaining supremacy in the industry.

The city has advantages in application scenarios, business environment and green finance, Guo said.

As one of the first batch of cities in the country to pilot low-carbon projects, Shenzhen has abundant application scenarios. The city’s business environment ranking has always been among the top in China.

Meanwhile, Shenzhen continues to guide financial institutions to support the development of the green industry, and it has formulated the world’s first green finance legislation to provide legal support for the development of green finance.

Shenzhen is home to nearly 140 enterprises at the upstream and downstream of the hydrogen energy industrial chain, according to a white paper on hydrogen energy and the fuel cell industry released Tuesday.

The companies are mainly located in Nanshan, Bao’an, Futian, Longhua, Longgang and Pingshan districts.

By 2025, it is estimated that Shenzhen’s transportation sector will become the major consumer of hydrogen energy, accounting for over 98% of the city’s hydrogen energy consumption.

More than 46% of Shenzhen’s hydrogen energy enterprises focus on fields related to fuel cell systems and fuel cell stacks, while about 30% focus on hydrogen supply, the white paper showed.

Shenzhen also ranks top in Guangdong Province in terms of the number of patent applications for the hydrogen energy and fuel cell industries.

The city’s virtual plant industrial ecology has also taken shape, the Daily reported.

It is expected that Shenzhen’s 5G communication base station energy storage will be fully connected to the city’s virtual power plant management center in 2023, providing over 200,000 kilowatts of fast and adjustable capacity to ensure the safety of electric power systems.

By 2025, Shenzhen will have built a virtual power plant with an adjustable capacity of 1 million kilowatts.
