SHENZHEN is set to present an industrial design event that will bring together over 300 exhibitors from home and abroad, including seven specially invited overseas exhibition groups, and display upwards of 6,000 design products from countries such as the Netherlands, South Korea, Japan, Italy, Denmark, and Türkiye.

Themed “Dual-Design Multiverse,” the 10th Shenzhen International Industrial Design Fair (SZIDF) will take place at Hall 2 of Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center in Futian District between Saturday and Tuesday, according to a press briefing held at the Sino-Finnish Design Park in Futian on Thursday.

This year’s SZIDF will feature eight exhibition areas covering an area of 15,000 square meters and more than 30 activities, including themed exhibitions, summits, seminars, livestreams, new product launches, matchmaking meetings and the Great One Award, according to the event’s organizers.

The fair, now in its 10th year, aims to look at the future opportunities of Shenzhen’s industries from the perspective of diversified design, in the hopes of bringing more inspiration to design empowerment, industrial transformation and urban revitalization.

As 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Netherlands, the fair has specially invited Jorg van den Hoven, president of the China Europe Branding Association (CEBA), as the event’s curator.

The Netherlands Pavilion has teamed up with teachers and students from universities and colleges in China and the Netherlands to create a “Design Thinking Workshop.” Meanwhile, the pavilion will gather a number of high-quality design exhibition groups to present advanced design concepts and a wide range of design products for a rich visual feast.

“We will release the Shenzhen Declaration of Global Design at the fair and put forward our new values of creativity and innovation,” said Shirley Feng, president of the Shenzhen Industrial Design Profession Association (SIDA), one of the fair’s organizers.

“We believe that innovation is not the right of businesses but is for opening the door to everyone who loves life. I hope ‘Shenzhen Design’ will become the city’s new label and brand,” Feng said.

Global experts, scholars and entrepreneurs, including David Kusuma, president of the World Design Organization, Ralph Wiegmann, former CEO of iF Design Award, Liu Guanzhong, a renowned Chinese industrial design scholar, and designer Jamy Yang, have been invited to attend the fair’s crossover summits to share global cutting-edge ideas and innovative initiatives.

SZIDF is the first professional design exhibition in China that has introduced the review mechanism of 100% Design, the U.K.’s leading design trade event, and the product launch model of the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), one of the world’s most influential tech events.
