Guqin lovers can have a chance to view more than 30 modern guqins made in ancient styles at a new exhibition at Shenzhen Museum’s ancient art division. The guqin is a plucked seven-string Chinese musical instrument, which has been played since ancient times and has traditionally been favored by scholars and the literati for its unique low-pitch sounds. Poems, paintings and guqin melodies have been favored by Chinese scholars throughout history. Guqin is sometimes referred to by the Chinese as the “father of Chinese music” or “instrument of the sages.” At the exhibition, visitors can see great subtlety and refinement in various guqins in the styles of some famous ones in the Tang (618-907), Song (960-1279), Yuan (1271-1368) and Ming (1368-1644) dynasties, or play one to feel serenity.
