A TOTAL of 53 projects from the city’s 20 strategic emerging industrial clusters and eight future industries won the first, second and third prizes of the 14th China (Shenzhen) Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition, accounting for over 98% of the total prizes.

The competition’s award ceremony was held Tuesday at Shenzhen Virtual University Park, Shenzhen Economic Daily reported.

The competition, launched this May, attracted 7,028 projects with 700 making it to the semifinal. Some of the projects are from countries such as the U.S., the U.K. and Canada.

A total of 288 competitors entered the industrial finals, with a total of 54 projects awarded the first, second and third prizes, and another 127 projects winning the excellent prize.

Additionally, 93 enterprises were recommended to attend the national innovation and entrepreneurship competition, ranking the fourth among all competition zones in the country.

According to data provided by the organizer, the number of projects in the competition reached 3,118, up 20.3% year on year. Moreover, the participating enterprises and teams have over 13,000 intellectual property rights registered. The projects’ research and development investment has exceeded 80 billion yuan (US$11.48 billion).

For the first time, the competition has added 29 categories such as network and communications, semiconductors and integrated circuits, and biomedicine.

The competition’s Qianhai preliminaries set up a competition zone in Taiwan, in addition to Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, in 2019. The Taiwan competition zone saw a growing number of projects year by year, with 956 this year.

At the award ceremony, the competition’s organizing committee also signed strategic agreements with financial institutions and industrial representatives to enhance the competition’s brand influence, according to the report.
