METRO Line 16, which was officially put into service starting from 10:58 a.m. yesterday, provided commuters more convenience in Pingshan and Longgang districts.

During the initial stage of operation, the trains departed at intervals of 5 minutes and 32 seconds during the workday rush hours and 6 minutes and 32 seconds during off-peak hours. On weekends, trains depart every 5 minutes and 50 seconds during peak hours, as per the operation schedule released by Shenzhen Metro Group.

The line’s operation brought the total length of city’s Metro network to 559 kilometers, ranking fourth among major Chinese cities.

The 29.2-kilometer line, a trunk line in the city’s east, has 24 stations including three interchange stations and seven more planned on the way. Passengers can transfer to at Universiade and Shuanglong stations, and to Line 14 at Universiade and Pingshanwei stations. It runs between Universiade Station in Longgang District and Tianxin Station in Pingshan District.

The operation of Line 16, a fully automated line, also marked the completion of opening of five Metro lines, totaling 128 kilometers, in 2022. The operation of lines 14 and 16 are expected to greatly relive the Line 3’s congestion during rush hours.
