SCIENCE and technology have already played a role in empowering culture and promoting cultural industries. It was most evident at the 18th China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair (ICIF) that concluded yesterday.

Many exhibitors showcased high-tech exhibits at the fair, attracting visitors to observe, take photos and interact with the products. Metaverse, AI robots, 3D holographic projections and other sci-tech elements provided spectators with a more immersive experience.

For instance, lifelike humanoid robots at the Liaoning Pavilion in Hall 9 in the Cultural Industries Hall A were showstoppers. The robots were developed by Chinese robotics company EXROBOTS.

The “Einstein” humanoid robot, which uses medical silica gel as its skin, can smile, frown and make other expressions for extended periods. It can not only sit up freely, but also move its hands and fingers flexibly.

Another humanoid robot on display can capture facial expressions. When a spectator smiles, frowns or winks in front of the screen next to the robot, the robot can immediately imitate it, as the camera on the screen captures and recognizes the human expression, which is converted into hardware parameters and mapped to the robot.

“We are participating in the ICIF for the first time, hoping to find more cooperation opportunities and create more characteristic ‘sci-tech+culture’ projects through this national cultural industries fair,” Li Boyang, president of EXROBOTS, said Friday.

“I think that combining technology with culture is a promising field,” Li said.

A demonstration area featuring naked eye 3D LED displays and 5G technology was a highlight at the Jiangsu Pavilion. It took visitors on a journey to experience the majesty and beauty of the whole Yangtze River basin.
