哥布林模式
    2023-01-03  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Meaning:

This is the transliteration of the English slang term “goblin mode,” the term chosen by the publisher of the Oxford English Dictionary as its 2022 word of the year. Oxford defines it as “a type of behavior which is unapologetically self-indulgent, lazy, slovenly, or greedy, typically in a way that rejects social norms or expectations.” The behaviors defined as goblin mode vary from person to person, but it’s commonly associated with things like consuming “junky” food and media and disregarding one’s appearance and sometimes hygiene. Goblin mode is most often used to refer to a temporary rather than a constant state. It’s often used in phrases like “enter goblin mode” and “go full goblin mode.”

Example:

A: 周末你过得好吗?

Zhōumò nǐ guò de hǎo ma?

How was your weekend?

B: 我进入了哥布林模式,穿着内衣边吃一大桶冰淇淋边看真人秀节目。

Wǒ jìnrù le gēbùlín móshì, chuān zhe nèiyī biān chī yīdàtǒng bīngqílín biān kàn zhēnrénxiù jiémù。

I went into goblin mode and sat around in my underwear, eating a bucket of ice cream while watching reality shows.
