Light shows

‘Glow Shenzhen’

“Glow Shenzhen,” running through Feb. 19, features 217 works of light art created by Chinese and international artists. Each district in the city spotlights different topics. Xiangmi Park (香蜜公园) in Futian District and Buji River (布吉河) and The MixC (万象城) in Luohu are recommended spots.

Zigong lantern show

The annual Zigong lantern show (79.9 yuan) is back. In addition to traditional festive lights, giant lanterns inspired by Chinese mythological legends and dinosaurs are also featured at the 300,000-square-meter exhibition which runs until Feb. 5. Float parades and music shows will also be held.

GBA Super Light Show

Covering 20,000 square meters, the 2023 Greater Bay Area Super Light Show (68 yuan) running through Feb. 26 makes you feel you are traveling back to the Tang (618-907) and Song (960-1279) dynasties when you stroll along a 100-meter-long corridor decorated with countless lanterns. Other giant lights were created by artisans from Zigong, Sichuan Province. Be it a 5-meter-tall dragon, or a magnificent Flying Asparas, the lights are stunning and dreamy.

Parks

Flower fair

Visitors can admire a sea of Enkianthus quinqueflorus Lour. (铃儿花) at Enshang Wetland on Wutong Mountain. From Jan. 21 to 27, a Spring Festival fair will also be held, where you can have dessert and barbecue.

Metro: Line 8 to Haishan Station (海山站), Exit B and then take a shuttle bus called “山海专线” (3-6 yuan)

Cherry blossom festival

Cherry blossoms in the Mission Hills Ecological Sports Park are in full bloom and the cherry blossom festival (30 yuan) runs through Feb. 5.

Metro: Line 4 to Mission Hills Station (观澜湖站), Exit A

Camping

From Jan. 21 to 27, Lianhua Hill Park is holding a lakeside camping event where locals can enjoy music and a series of family-friendly activities.

Ticketed exhibitions

‘Celebrate More!’

Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, who has created playful urban installations like “Rubber Duck,” has brought new giant “toys” to the “Celebrate More!” exhibition (78 yuan) running through March 26.

Metro: Line 1 or 2 to Grand Theater Station (大剧院站), Exit C

‘Moi! Shenzhen’

Ten Finnish illustrators, including Minni Havas, Anja Reponen and Jenni Erkintalo, are exhibiting their works at the “Moi! Shenzhen” exhibition (30 yuan). Visitors can have a glimpse into Finnish culture, art and life philosophy at the exhibition which runs through March 12 (closed Jan. 21-22).

Immersive Cézanne show

A stunning, digital immersive exhibition (78 yuan) of French artist and post-Impressionist painter Paul Cézanne (1839-1906) is being held until Aug. 31 (closed Jan. 21-24).

teamLab

A permanent exhibition hall of teamLab (158 yuan) has opened at C Future City and visitors can indulge themselves in various multimedia installations.

Free exhibitions

He Xiangning Art Museum

Overseas Chinese artists are exhibiting their paintings at an exhibition running until March 26. Another exhibition running until Feb. 12 offers a look into the seamless combination of He Xiangning’s paintings and Liu Yazi’s poetry.

‘Art & Design Tracks’

Visitors can check out cultural and creative products, especially those with rabbit elements, at “Art & Design Tracks” running through Feb. 15. Some items can also be purchased there and the earliest 30 visitors everyday during the Spring Festival holiday can claim gifts.

‘The Prehistoric Players’

Children should not miss the “The Prehistoric Players” exhibition displaying prehistoric animal models. Children will not only get to know their habits but also play sports and games at the exhibition which runs through April 30.

Glassware, zodiac

An exhibition running through April 6 showcases ancient glassware from countries along the Silk Road. Another exhibition featuring the 12 Chinese zodiac animal signs is also being held until May 7.

Wealth god, elegant items

“The Culture of God of Wealth,” running through Feb. 5, depicts Chinese conceptions of wealth in folk cultural relics. Two more exhibitions are showcasing traditional Chinese study room items and porcelains.

New media works

Artists from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Macao are presenting their new media works at the 2022 Hong Kong-Macao Visual Art Biennale running until Feb. 19.
