REGISTRATIONS for the Shenzhen Bao’an Marathon 2022 will start at 10 a.m. Friday, according to an announcement from Borun Spread, the event operator, on its WeChat account Wednesday.

The event is scheduled to be held March 19. It offers a quota of 8,000 for full-length runners and 10,000 for half-length runners.

Interested runners can register at the “滨海宝安” WeChat account or “Shenzhen Bao’an Marathon” account.

The Shenzhen Bao’an Marathon was accredited a gold medal sports event by the Chinese Athletics Association in 2018, three years after its inception. Due to the COVID pandemic, the event was halted in 2020 and 2021, and the 2022 event was rescheduled to March this year.

With spring approaching, Shenzhen is experiencing various sporting events to be held starting February.

The Shenzhen Marathon 2022 will be held Feb. 19, marking the first city-level marathon in Guangdong Province after the Chinese New Year and the recovery of sports events in the city after COVID.

The event will offer quotas of 10,000 for full-length runners and 10,000 for half-length runners. The 42-kilometer route will start from Shenzhen Civic Center and will go west along Shennan Boulevard, passing through Futian, Nanshan, Bao’an, Qianhai and landmarks like the Window of the World, Dasha River Park, Shenzhen Bay Sports Center, Shenzhen Talent Park and Nantou Ancient Town. The finish line for the full marathon will be at Qianhaishi Park in Qianhai and Shenzhen Bay for the half marathon.

Another hiking challenge event, the Trans Dapeng 100, will be held at Depeng Peninsula from Feb. 10-12. The event is divided into three categories, namely UTDP120, DNDP50 and BCDP15, whose routes cover 120 kilometers, 52 kilometers and 14 kilometers, respectively.

Runners can enjoy mountain and sea sceneries along the hiking trail and explore the mysteries of nature and history through the cultural and geological relics. For the UTDP120, runners have to ascend around 6,600 meters, and for the BCDP15, 900 meters.

Dapeng boasts a 128-kilometer coastline, with a 77.49% forest coverage. It is regarded as a paradise for outdoor mountaineering and hiking in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
