Diva to present Cantonese opera-style songs
    2023-02-03  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

ON the night of the Lantern Festival, which falls on Sunday, as well as on the following night, Cantonese opera diva Zeng Xiaomin will headline a vocal concert accompanied by the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra under the baton of its artistic director Lin Daye.

Collaborating for the concert will be leading singers Ding Fan, Peng Qinghua, Wen Ruqing and Wang Yanfei from the Guangdong Cantonese Opera Troupe, where Zeng serves as the president.

The program will include excerpts from Cantonese operas “White Snake” and “The Legend of Mei Anxiang,” as well as Cantonese opera-style original songs “Every Spring” and “Red Scarf.” Ding, a national-level intangible cultural heritage inheritor, will perform “Full River Red,” a Cantonese opera-style song based on patriotic poet Yue Fei’s (1103-1142) lyrics of the same title.

Zeng is a winner of the Chinese Drama Plum Blossom Award, China’s top award for drama.

As this program is sponsored by the Futian District government, ticket prices are less expensive than for similar programs at Shenzhen Concert Hall.
