NEARLY 500 political advisers will offer their suggestions on the city’s key work and popular social issues at the Third Session of the Seventh Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

The session, the annual meeting of the city’s political advisory body, officially opened at Shenzhen Auditorium in Futian District yesterday and will last for two and a half days.

Lin Jie, chairperson of the Seventh Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPPCC, delivered a work report at the opening meeting on behalf of the political advisory body’s standing committee.

According to Lin, the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPPCC carried out consultative oversight over major issues and helped ensure effective implementation of  major strategies of the municipal Party committee and the city government in 2022.

Lin called on the city’s political advisers to shoulder their responsibilities, continue to pool their wisdom, and work to improve people’s well-being with practical actions.

As the annual meeting has raised its curtain, the city’s political advisers are eager to offer their suggestions on such heatedly discussed topics as people’s livelihood, the economy, scientific and technological innovation, cooperation between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, children’s health care and green development.

Political adviser Zhu Dongbo has paid special attention to Shenzhen’s efforts in turning itself into a consumption hub and thus brought relevant proposals to the meeting.

Zhu said that building a consumption hub is inseparable from the fashion industry, pointing out that the industry is facing new opportunities and challenges amid the digital economy wave.

“Digital empowerment and digitization are the only ways to promote the high-quality development of the fashion industry,” Zhu said. He suggested that efforts should be made to further increase financial support for the fashion industry and develop targeted plans and guidelines for the industry’s digitization drive.

Ma Xiaopeng, president of Shenzhen Children’s Hospital, said that the hospital has set its sights on building a child-friendly hospital group with the ultimate goal of becoming a regional children’s medical center in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Ma said that the city has planned to build two children’s hospitals in Longhua and Longgang districts that will be operated by Shenzhen Children’s Hospital to provide more efficient health care services for children.

Duan Hai, who has been engaged in the construction industry for years, said that it is an inevitable trend to promote prefabricated steel buildings in Shenzhen to achieve high-quality growth in the construction industry.

He suggested that the city should include the prefabricated steel structure industry as a key industry for green development and roll out relevant incentives and supportive policies.
