City unveils 5 Cantonese-food tourist routes
    2023-03-01  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

FIVE tourism routes for food lovers were unveiled Friday, allowing them to discover more kinds of Cantonese cuisine. Among the routes, foodies can check out 30 highly rated Cantonese restaurants, sources from the city’s culture, radio, television, tourism and sports bureau said.

The 30 restaurants were selected following a three-month review.

The five routes feature different Cantonese restaurant categories, with one connecting time-honored eateries, including Hong Kong Sun Fat Restaurant, Carrianna Chiu Chow Restaurant and Victory Restaurant, and another connecting eateries regarded as “must-go restaurants.” The recommended restaurants along the route include Chua Lam’s Dim Sum and Master Oyster.

There is also a route connecting restaurants selected from food delivery giant Meituan’s Black Diamond Ranking. The restaurants include Wu Modern Chao Cuisine and Xu Ji Seafood.

Foodies can admire coastal sceneries while enjoying the coastal Cantonese food route and there is another route running through western Shenzhen.

At the beginning of this year, the bureau started to design the tourism routes, combining the tourist spots and restaurants with tasty Cantonese food.

“I have to ensure the quality of the ingredients and cooking methods for every dish served at the restaurant are top-notch,” Chen Hanzong, founder of Master Oyster, said. The restaurant is a stop along the “must-go restaurants” route. Chen recommended their specialities such as steamed oysters with minced garlic, steamed rice topped with oysters and sausages and fried oysters.

The city has gathered many Cantonese cuisine chefs and foodies, creating a favorable environment for innovation, Chen added.

In recent years, Shenzhen has launched projects to cultivate Cantonese cuisine chefs in order to develop the industry. The projects have made outstanding achievements in cultivating talents, stabilizing employment and revitalizing rural areas.
