Brahms violin sonatas

Brahms’ three violin sonatas are among the greatest masterpieces of 19th-century chamber music. Yehudi Menuhin School’s violin associate professor He Shucong will collaborate with pianist Wang Chao to perform the complete violin sonatas.

Dance ‘Deep in Memory’

“Deep in Memory,” performed by the Jiangsu Performing Arts Group, follows the survivors and witnesses of the Nanjing Massacre that took place when Japanese troops invaded Nanjing, during which more than 300,000 Chinese were killed in a six-week rampage that started Dec. 13, 1937. Dancer Tang Shiyi plays the lead role of Chinese-American writer Iris Chang, the author of “The Rape of Nanking,” who in the dance drama establishes a link with the main historical figures from the book, including John Rabe, Minnie Vautrin and Shiro Azuma.

‘Man of La Mancha’

The Chinese version of the U.S. musical “Man of La Mancha” is adapted from Dale Wasserman’s 1959 teleplay “I, Don Quixote,” and tells the story of the “mad” knight Don Quixote as a play within a play, performed by Cervantes and his fellow prisoners as he awaits a hearing during the Spanish Inquisition. The work is not and does not pretend to be a faithful rendition of either Cervantes’ life or his story of Don Quixote.
