
An image of a plant named after Shenzhen. The plant, with scientific name Aspidistra xiaoyunii C.R. Lin, B.M. Wang & Yan Liu, was given a common name in Chinese, which directly translates as “Shenzhen spider hugging an egg.” A thesis about the plant was published in Phytotaxa, a peer-reviewed scientific journal for rapid publication of any aspect of systematic botany, verifying the plant as new species. The purple plant can measure as high as 50 centimeters, with its flower’s diameter reaching 2 centimeters. DT News |
