Family reunites with girl abducted 15 years ago
    2023-03-24  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A GIRL reunited with her family in Shenzhen’s Longgang District 15 years after she was abducted, Shenzhen TV reported Thursday.

It’s a reunion that seems straight out of a movie. Almost 15 years after his 4-year-old daughter was abducted, a local citizen surnamed Cai was able to see his daughter at a police station in Shenzhen.

“I cried midnight at the police station,” Cai told Shenzhen TV.

According to Cai, the family is from Jieyang, Guangdong Province. On June 27, 2008, Cai was busy in his own store at Longdong community, Longgang, while his 4-year-old daughter played outside the store.

After about 20 minutes, he noticed that his daughter had disappeared. He called the police after searching nearby, and through surveillance camera footage, he found that a middle-aged woman had taken the girl away.

The family has been finding her whereabouts for 15 years and offered a 100,000-yuan (US$14,665.12) reward for information.

Cai said that the family had not left the community where their daughter got abducted. “I think one day, my daughter may remember this place and find it back,” the father said.

Longgang police recently collected photos and other information from the family during a national crackdown on human traffickers.

After conducting face recognition, police found the suspect and went to Guang’an, Sichuan Province, for investigation and DNA collection, Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

To Cai’s surprise, on March 18, the day of the blood collection, he received a phone call from a man who claimed to be the girl’s brother. The man asked whether they could settle the case out of court.

The man told Cai his sister might be the daughter the family has been looking for.

“At that time, I was completely confused, so I asked him, ‘Where did your sister come from?’” Cai said. The man said that his mother brought her back from Shenzhen.

The man sent the girl’s photo to Cai, and the father confirmed at first sight that the girl is his mssing daughter.

Early the next morning, Cai reported the situation to the district police. The police immediately rushed to Sichuan and brought the girl and the kidnapper back to Shenzhen that night.

The girl was attending a high school in Guang’an, Sichuan, and she completely forgot her childhood.

“She never knew her background, and her adoptive family kept it from her,” Cai said.

After several days of living together, the girl gradually accepted the facts about her situation.

“My daughter said she would not go back to Sichuan to her adoptive family, this time she really is at home,” the father said.

Police investigation of the case is under way.
