Premier puts focus on manufacturing
    2023-03-24  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

PREMIER Li Qiang called for efforts to prioritize high-quality development, place emphasis on the development of the real economy, make a big push to develop advanced manufacturing, advance high-end manufacturing and accelerate the construction of a modern industrial system.

Li made the remarks while visiting the central China province of Hunan from Tuesday to Wednesday. He also hosted a forum on advanced manufacturing that a number of top executives including Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi Corp., attended, broadcaster China Central Television reported.

Li urged the executives to “promote high-level technological independence and self-reliance, and push forward the transformation and upgrading of traditional manufacturing industries.”

Companies should “accelerate the transformation and shift of Chinese manufacturing into Chinese creations and Chinese products into Chinese brands,” he added.

The premier also visited companies including electric-car maker BYD Co., Lens Technology Co., an Apple Inc. supplier, and CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co.

During his visits, the premier learned in details about the production, research and development, and market development of these firms, Xinhua reported.

Li said promoting the development of advanced manufacturing fundamentally depends on innovation and talent. Firms should accelerate to achieve breakthroughs in core technologies in key fields and in major technology and equipment, according to the Xinhua report.

The value and vitality of technological innovation lies in its application, Li said. He urged greater synergies between industry, academia, research and application and called for the standard and quality of products to be raised.

The premier said that China’s manufacturing sector is also at a critical juncture as the domestic and external environments are undergoing profound and complex changes.

He said efforts should be made to promote the transformation and upgrading of the traditional manufacturing sector, and promote the cultivation and development of strategic emerging industries.

The premier called for the creation of a market-oriented, law-based and internationalized business environment, adding that policy orientation should be strengthened to support the advanced manufacturing industry. (SD-Agencies)
