EXPORTS of high-tech, high-value and green products like new energy vehicles (NEVs), lithium batteries and photovoltaic products from Shenzhen kept increasing in the past months.

Data from Shenzhen Customs showed that export volumes of NEVs, photovoltaic products and lithium batteries reached 3.6 billion yuan (US$522.81 million), 500 million yuan and 13 billion yuan, respectively, in the first two months of this year, up by 2,300%, 64% and 62% year on year.

In the first two months, exports of BYD NEVs that passed through Shenzhen Customs reached 25,000 units.

The sale of BYD NEVs is gaining speed. It took 13 years for BYD to sell 1 million vehicles. However, the car manufacturer spent one year to sell another 1 million vehicles. Furthermore, it took BYD half a year to sell 1 million more vehicles, according to Liu Feng from company’s customs affairs department. The company is expanding to overseas markets with the focus on Oceanian, European and Southeast Asian countries. Since the beginning of this year, the country actively strengthened its presence in Asian and African markets.

On March 21, 168,000 solar cell panels were sent to India via air freight. With the world’s economy recovering and the new energy industry developing, the demand for solar batteries kept increasing. In the first two months, the exports of solar cell panels via Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport reached 4.9 million, up by 542 times, customs data showed.

Customs also implemented the Sea Port and Airport Linkage Plan at the Shenzhen airport to cut customs clearance time and supported the city opening and intensifying flights to world’s tech and trade cities to assist local enterprises to expand their global network, according to Lei Dan, head of the check-in business section of Shenzhen Airport Customs.

In terms of lithium battery production, Shenzhen owns complete battery industry chain and takes the lead in niche markets like power lithium battery materials and manufacturing technologies. The city’s advanced battery materials industrial cluster was selected into the 45 national advanced manufacturing clusters.

The Shenzhen Hello Tech Energy Co. Ltd. at Guanlan in Longhua District, established a decade ago, is a company engaged in outdoor power generators, which can satisfy the need of traveling and emergencies.

In the first two months, the company exported a total of 100,000 packs of lithium batteries at a value of 220 million yuan, up by 172% year on year.
