ALUMNI, students and faculty alike gathered at the auditorium of the International School of Nanshan Shenzhen (ISNS) yesterday morning in Nanshan District to celebrate the school’s 20th anniversary and reflect on the institution’s rich history and achievements.

Since its establishment in 2002, ISNS, the first IB full continuum school in Shenzhen, started a small school of 154 students and has blossomed into one of the city’s oldest and well-established international schools with students representing  over 30 nationalities.

To mark this milestone, the school has organized various events, including art exhibitions, performances, and a bazaar featuring fun games, food and activity booths. The entire ISNS community was involved and invited to join in the festivities.

“The caring environment that ISNS provides has had a positive impact on thousands of young people over the years. ISNS is now well known, not just in Shenzhen, but around the world, because of the positive impact that our students have made,” David Swanson, head of the school, said in his welcome address. “Our students have become a transformational force, as they’ve gone out into the world to make it a better place.”

Since August 2016, ISNS has been an IB World School for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program (PYP), Middle Years Program (MYP) and Diploma Program (DP). In addition to its IB programs, ISNS offers an English-based, Canadian curriculum from the Province of New Brunswick.

“Throughout our journey, we have grown. We built our new school and we have tripled in size. This endeavor and our process of self study for international accreditations have further solidified our commitment to foster a diverse student body through exceptional education,” Addie Loy, ISNS’s director of program development, said. Loy has been working at the school for 12 years.

According to Loy, ISNS will receive full accreditation from the Council of International Schools (CIS) in November this year, which marks another milestone in the school’s development.
