‘Two Capitals Fifteen Days’

Adapted from the historical novel by award-winning writer Ma Boyong, the Chinese play “Two Capitals Fifteen Days” follows Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) prince Zhu Zhanji who has a crazy journey — in 15 days from Nanjing to Beijing along the Grand Canal — to save himself and the dynasty. Besides the thrilling plot, viewers will also enjoy a vivid scroll of the Grand Canal scenes on the stage.

On Friday, cellist Shi Chengyan who graduated from Curtis Institute of Music and Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin will join hands with pianist Huang Ruoyu, a graduate from Curtis Institute of Music and The Juilliard School, to play Brahms’ two cello sonatas, Tchaikovsky’s “3 Pieces for Piano and Cello” and Robert Schumann’s “Adagio and Allegro in A-flat Major.”

On Sunday, Shanghai Conservatory of Music erhu teacher Lu Yiwen and a string quartet will play a night of Chinese folk songs, as well as Dvorak’s “Humoresque,” Kreisler’s “Liebesleid,” Gardel’s “Por Una Cabeza” and Sarasate’s “Zigeunerweisen.”
