

Thursday marked the beginning of China’s traditional solar term Grain Rain, or Guyu, and the 14th U.N. Chinese Language Day, which was selected to coincide with the start of Guyu in honor of Cangjie, the mythical inventor of Chinese characters. This combined photo shows Egyptian Asmar Mustapha Ibrahim displaying the Chinese character “心” (heart) she wrote with a brush April 13 and the same character in the form of oracle bone script (left below) exhibited in the National Museum of Chinese Writing in Anyang, Central China’s Henan Province, on Wednesday.
