Readers give thumbs-up to SZ Daily’s new layout

SHENZHEN Daily has met readers with its new page layout and content, especially its first three pages, starting this week. The new version has been applauded by the readers.

“I just came across the new version of Shenzhen Daily and I really enjoy seeing the first page of the paper with such a big picture with modern and young characters, really similar to a magazine than a newspaper,” said Paola Sellitto, an Italian and a co-founder of Dragon Club, a reading club in Shekou.

“Also, I noticed that the second page has sections called in-depth and highlight of the day. Good job!” Sellitto added.

The magazine-like front page uses a big picture instead of the combination of a picture and an article. It cuts the pieces of guidance to provide a clear and simplified layout. Information for the Daily and QR codes of its related social media platforms have been moved to the second page.

The second page focuses on one specific topic on each issue, it could be an important news or an in-depth story, providing comprehensive and thorough observations of current-day Shenzhen. The third page presents readers with local news with thoughtfully selected topics.

Heráclito Everson Biscaia Filho from Brazil, a faithful reader of Shenzhen Daily for the last 15 years, gave a thumbs-up to Shenzhen Daily’s new changes. “The newspaper has become more attractive and more colorful. I’m really happy to see the newspaper modernizing just like the city is becoming more modern,” the Brazilian said. “Shenzhen Daily provides me an excellent way to get access to what is going on in Shenzhen. I’m very thankful to Shenzhen Daily,” he added.

Hong Kong entrepreneur Wong Sing-lung, founder of Shenzhen Dangxia Culture Technology Co. Ltd., a startup company in Qianhai, came to Shenzhen in 2021. Since then, he has been a regular reader of Shenzhen Daily. He is pleased to see the newspaper’s changes because “the knowledge is much more depth than before.”

Priyasha Sharma from India, an international student from Shenzhen University, has been reading Shenzhen Daily since she moved to the city in 2015. She noticed that the graphics added related to the in-depth story of “Are foreign carmakers losing out in Chinese EV market?” on Tuesday’s newspaper added more accuracy to the article.

As a loyal reader, Sharma gave a suggestion for Shenzhen Daily on adding food experience category and information about job vacancies for expats.

“I recommend that in the new edition, there can be a food experience category like  expats sharing their views on trying international or local restaurants or cafes and bars in Shenzhen. Also, I think the paper can consider listing some job positions available for expats and international students living in Shenzhen that would account for a big help for foreigners as well,” Sharma said.

For Italian painter Lele, Shenzhen Daily’s new layout design is “fresh and novel.” The artist said that the new style makes the reading experience more enjoyable, and he is looking forward for new releases in the future.
