特种兵式旅游
    2023-04-28  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Meaning:

“特种兵式” means “SWAT-style,” and “旅游” means “tour, travel.” This term coined by Chinese netizens refers to a demanding way of traveling popular among the young, who try to visit as many destinations as possible in a limited time on a minimum budget. One such example was a university student from Anhui Province, who reportedly covered nearly a dozen landmarks in Beijing, including the Forbidden City, Summer Palace, Lama Temple, Drum Tower and Beihai Park, within two days on a weekend. She spent Friday night on a train and didn’t sleep on Saturday, instead waiting for the National Flag raising ceremony at Tian’anmen Square. Such tours, although time-saving and cost-efficient, put much stress on the travelers, whose stress levels are compared to those of a “Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team.”

Example:

A: 五一假期你有什么计划?

Wǔyī jiàqī nǐ yǒu shénme jìhuà?

What are your plans for the May Day holiday?

B: 我约了几个朋友去贵州玩。我们打算四天走完所有著名景点,来一场特种兵式旅游。

Wǒ yuē le jǐge péngyǒu qù guìzhōu wán。Wǒmen dǎsuàn sìtiān zǒuwán suǒyǒu zhùmíng jǐngdiǎn,lái yīchǎng tèzhǒngbīng shì lǚyóu。

I will travel to Guizhou Province with a few friends. We plan to cover all the famous destinations in four days, traveling to as many places as possible on a minimum budget.
