Waste disposal-themed museum in Bao’an starts trial operation
    2023-05-31  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A MUSEUM that aims to help citizens better understand waste disposal has been opened to the public for trial operations, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported Monday.

The museum, which is located in Bao’an District, covers a floor area of 9,298 square meters and is said to be the largest of its kind in the country.

Not only is the museum an exhibition hall popularizing waste classification knowledge and waste disposal quality control, it is also the only waste disposal history museum in China that integrates nature and workshops, helping citizens learn more about the evolution of waste treatment technology, management practices, policies and regulations, and environmental awareness.

Equipped with historical exhibits, interactive game installations and a vast amount of historical information on waste disposal, the museum vividly showcases how humans have handled garbage during different civilization periods.

Another highlight of the museum is its integration with Bao’an environmental park’s waste disposal workshops. A tour will take the visitors through areas such as the central control room of the waste incineration workshop, the waste crane control room and the production equipment site.

Visitors can learn firsthand about the operations, processing capacity and the city’s achievements in adhering to environmental protection standards that are higher than the EU’s and far higher than national standards.

The museum’s interior design is also imaginatively designed with technology elements to convey the messages of energy conservation, emission reduction and green travel.

“The opening of this waste disposal history museum is very significant and helpful for citizens to understand garbage classification. It can teach us how to scientifically classify garbage,” Huang Xiang, a deputy to the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Congress, commented.

During the museum’s trial operation period, volunteers are invited to serve as tour guides. In the future, these volunteers will collaborate with professional guides to help enhance citizens’ participation and experience at the museum.

The museum was jointly built by the municipal urban management authority, Bao’an’s urban management and law enforcement bureau, and SE Environment.
