Ancient shipwreck AN iron anchor and a box have been discovered near one of the two South China Sea ancient shipwrecks where a Chinese archaeological investigation is ongoing. A deep-sea archaeological team is conducting the first stage of investigations at the site of the No. 1 and No. 2 shipwrecks. The investigation will run from late May to early June this year. The iron anchor and the box were discovered in the southwestern direction of the No. 1 shipwreck site, with a distance of about 50 meters between them. Vienna orchestra THE world-renowned Vienna Symphony Orchestra kicked off its China tour Monday night with a three-day performance at the National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Beijing. During the concerts, the orchestra presented the Beijing audience with classical pieces by famous musicians. It is the orchestra’s third visit to China, after the previous ones in 2014 and 2017, respectively. Founded in 1900, the orchestra is one of Austria’s highest-level representatives of classical music. Governance reform A COALITION backing the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government’s district governance reform proposal collected over 1.61 million signatures from Hong Kong residents in support of the overhaul. From May 5 to 28, the coalition collected approximately 1.1 million signatures at street stations and about 510,000 online. |
