Disaster relief

CHINA has recently earmarked 200 million yuan (US$28.21 million) of disaster relief funds to ensure harvest in Henan Province.

The funds will be used to carry out agricultural machinery harvesting on the rain-hit wheat fields and drying the soggy grain to minimize losses in grain production due to disasters.

Previously, Henan experienced prolonged periods of rainy weather, which affected the wheat harvest.

Illegal mining

SIXTEEN defendants involved in a deadly mine flood accident in Daixian County, Shanxi Province, were sentenced recently by the Daixian County People’s Court, according to a CCTV report.

Due to illegal mining, a flood accident happened June 10, 2021, at an iron mine in Daixian, causing the death of 13 workers. The accused, as the actual controller, manager and directly responsible person of the enterprise involved, received sentences ranging from five years and 11 months to two years and six months.

Talent attraction

SHANGHAI’S net inflow of talented individuals continued to rank first in China last year, according to a recent report released by Zhilian Recruitment titled “China City Talent Attraction Ranking: 2023.”

The report, released yearly since 2017, surveys cross-city job search data to analyze talent mobility. The latest report listed Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen as the cities with the highest attraction index in 2022.
