Free classic music concerts for June
    2023-06-07  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN Concert Hall will offer a series of free concerts this month, including an outdoor concert June 12 on an islet on the lake of Honghu Park amid the sunset and the fragrance of lotus flowers.

On June 11, Du Ningwu from the Xinghai Conservatory of Music will give a lecture on readapting Chinese music pieces and share his insights of double piano and piano four hands performances. Young talents Chen Bei, Wu Mingyi, Wu Xiaoping, Qin Li and Chen Zhili will perform on the piano to illustrate the lecture.

Du, the first pianist from the Chinese mainland to win first place at the Sydney International Piano Competition, met his wife Helen Sim, a Korean pianist, during their training at the Julliard School in New York City. They formed the piano duo Du & Sim in 2000 and, in the following year, were the top prizewinners and recipients of the Baronessa Titetta Cafici Savarese Award at the IBLA Grand Prize International Piano Competition in Italy.

They also won top prizes at the Edvard Grieg International Piano Competition in Norway. Du is a respected pedagogue and is best known for his composition “24 Piano Preludes.”

On June 12, the Guangzhou-based Chinese music troupe Zun Ling Zhi Xiu will perform an outdoor concert at Honghu Park. They will bring familiar Chinese pieces including “Colorful Clouds Chasing the Moon,” the adapted version of Jay Chou’s “Blue and White Porcelain” and the theme of the Chinese animation film “Big Fish and Begonia,” on the bamboo flute, pipa, ruan and other Chinese instruments.

The Afternoon Music Time series will present three concerts June 10, 17 and 24 respectively focusing on the beloved chamber trio of violin, cello and piano; a children’s chorus paying tribute to the coming Father’s Day; and a Chinese music show performed on the pipa and zheng.
