Han Ximin, Chen Siqi 1824295095@qq.com GUANGDONG is celebrating a bumper litchi harvest this year, with a total of 3,500 metric tons of litchis being transported to domestic and overseas markets via air service since mid-May, data from Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport showed. In the past week alone, the airport’s cargo yard handled about 100 tons of litchis. The litchis were delivered to major cities in China, including Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Xi’an, Nanjing and Changchun. To facilitate the transportation of litchis, SF Express has deployed dedicated cargo planes along more than 20 routes. The company’s contribution accounts for nearly half of the total litchis transported from the airport. Since May, over 50 tons of litchis have been exported via Shenzhen airport, triple the amount of the same period last year. The exported produce has primarily been destined for countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Canada and Indonesia. According to data provided by Shenzhen airport, the Nanshan region is estimated to yield approximately 1,000 to 1,300 tons of litchis this year. With more litchi species expected to enter the market in the coming weeks, sales are projected to continue rising. In another development, Shenzhen University has recently garnered attention for its commendable initiative of providing students and faculty with 50,000 kilograms of litchis. Shenzhen University grows 5,000 litchi trees across its Yuehai and Lihu campuses, with an expected yield of 80,000 kilograms of litchis this year.
